The first 1/3 of the book 4 starThe second 1/3 of the book 1 starThe last 1/3 of the book 2 starOverall 2.5 starsThere were many parts of this book that were contradictory. Cameron was the strongest MacKenzie brother; the first one to stand up to their father physically. Yet, he allowed himself being repeatedly sodomized, burnt, beaten, physically and emotionally abused, his new-born son in constant danger by his sadistic, sex crazed first wife at a time when wives had no power. He didn't put her away in an asylum like his father did to Ian or file for a legal separation. The boy and the man he was before his first marriage or for the next 15 years after the death of his wife contradicts the weak, powerless man who would put up with that sort of nonsense as his first wife dished out. JMHO!
